Sam is a NIDA-trained actor with extensive credits across film, television, theatre and voice. Originally from London, he began his screen career on the BAFTA Award-winning series Roger and the Rottentrolls, along with various appearances for the BBC. He graduated from NIDA in 2002.
Film
Feature film credits include Peter Rabbit, Maya the Bee, According to Otto, Bitter and Twisted and The Bet. Short film credits include the Tropfest finalist Call Me Al, For Crying Out Loud, The Bad Luck and Old Friends.
Television
Television credits include Rake, A Place to Call Home, Underbelly 2, The Cut, The First Australians, My Place, Out of the Blue, Tough Nuts, Drop Dead Weird, The Kangaroo Gang and 110% Tony Squires.
Theatre
Sam has performed extensively on Australian stages with Belvoir (Company B), Sydney Theatre Company, Griffin Theatre Company, Darlinghurst Theatre Company, The Old Fitz, Sport For Jove, the Seymour Centre, Q Theatre, Tamarama Rock Surfers and Cry Havoc/Under The Wharf, among many others. He also toured nationally in The 39 Steps, playing every major city and regional centres across Australia.
As a founding member of Alchemy Theatre Company and creator of The Lock Up Theatre, he appeared in Romeo and Juliet, Some Voices and The Pull of Negative Gravity.
Voice
Voice credits include Hamlet and This is How for ABC Radio Arts, audiobooks for Audible and voiceovers for more than 30 national radio and television campaigns. He narrated the documentary Cape Carnage for UKTV.
Writing and Directing
Sam's plays have been performed at NIDA, STS, Darlinghurst Theatre Company, The Old Fitz and the Sydney Opera House Studio. Directing credits include Green Tea (Award Winner, Sydney Fringe Festival), The Shape of Things (Under The Wharf/Pantsguys), The Anarchists and The Black Dog (STS), 529 to the Cemetery (Cronulla Arts Theatre), I SEE (Sydney Fringe Festival) and the Tropfest-shortlisted film Nobody's Perfect.
Teaching
Sam is Founder and Director of Sydney Actors Association, one of Australia's most well-established independent acting institutions. A respected and sought-after acting coach, he has trained thousands of actors from beginner to professional level.
He has taught for the National Institute of Dramatic Art, the NIDA Open Program (Sydney and touring), The Actors Centre, The Actors Pulse, ATYP, AIPA, Brent Street Studios, APAGS, Newtown High School of the Performing Arts, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Centre City Music Theatre, Auckland, and Pacific Opera. In the UK he has taught for The London Academy, Sylvia Young and The Actors Centre, London.
